No shortage of things to do this holiday weekend
The sky will indeed light up with fireworks in Marietta this Fourth of July weekend, thanks to a last-minute bailout from some local businesses. “We are definitely more than grateful for those who helped us out this year,” said fair board secretary Bonnie Gill. A fireworks display is planned for 10 p.m. Saturday at the Washington County Fairgrounds. The $5 admission will get you one of roughly 3,000 seats in the grandstand which, according to Gill, are the best places to see the display. But the fun won’t stop there. All around the town, the county and across the river, events are planned to celebrate Independence Day. The weekend kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday with the 15th annual Red, White and Blues Fest, an open-air blues concert in the parking lot of the Lafayette Hotel. This year’s musical lineup includes the Dennis McClung Blues Band from Fairmont, W.Va.; the Inner City Blues Band from Columbus; and the Sunny Moorman Group from Cincinnati.
