Warren downs South

By Steve Hemmelgarn Special to The Times VINCENT — Warren made two first-quarter scores stand up as the host Warriors posted a 14-7 victory over Parkersburg South Friday night. In fact, Warren (2-1) led 14-0 at the half, and kept the Patriots off the scoreboard until 1:36 remained in the game when Joe Reed returned a punt 91 yards for a touchdown, cutting South’s deficit in half. But Warren recovered the ensuing onside kick and was able to run out the clock. The Warriors will play their Southeastern Ohio Athletic League opener next Friday at Marietta, while the 1-1 Patriots host Springarn from Washington, D.C. Warren’s first score in the game was a safety at 9:35 of the first period as a South snap sailed over the Patriot punter’s head and through the end zone. After the two-point safety, Andrew Dunfee returned the South free kick 34 yards to the Patriot 35 and the Warriors proceeded to grind out the remaining yardage into the end zone.
