WATERFORD — There are a lot of techniques involved in being an outstanding distance runner. A group of more than 20 athletes from four different schools got some experience in a great many of those techniques at Hervida 4-H Camp in the first Valley Distance School. “My goal was just to expose them to as much as I could,” said Fort Frye cross country coach Alana Lupardus, who organized the camp. Athletes from Fort Frye, Waterford, Warren and Crooksville got instruction in aspects of distance running ranging from how to prevent injuries to what it’s like running on the collegiate level. They got that instruction from some of the best sources available with former University of Alabama runner and state record holder Brian Hesson, Caldwell cross country coach Dugan Hill, Marietta College track and cross country coach Derek Stanley and Marietta College head of sports medicine Sam Crowther all delivering lessons. “We had amazing speakers.

Having 15 girls turn out for the start of tennis practice this week is a definite luxury for head coach Mike Miller and the Lady Tigers’ tennis program.
