Sunday liquor sales on ballot
Residents in three Washington County precincts will have the chance to decide on Election Day, Nov. 4, if they want to have alcoholic beverages sold in convenience stores in their areas. Par Mar and Speedway filed petitions to get approval of Sunday liquor sales on the ballot for stores in Marietta, Barlow and Little Hocking. The issue for the West Side Drive-Thru and Carry Out on Franklin Street in Marietta was not placed on the ballot because of issues with some of the signatures collected for its petition. The Washington County Board of Elections decided on the petitions Tuesday. A liquor license in Ohio does not include the right to sell alcohol on Sunday. Any business that wants to sell alcoholic beverages on Sunday must file a petition and let local voters decide the issue. Linda Casey, a spokeswoman for Speedway, said they are simply responding to customer demands.
