Tigers solid both defensively and offensively
Ron Johnston, rjohnston@mariettatimes.com Early on in Marietta High’s Aug. 13 scrimmage against Bellaire High at Don Drumm Stadium, Tiger outside linebacker Perry Wheeler blitzed untouched into the Big Reds’ backfield, and could’ve literally flattened or knocked the quarterback into the middle of next week. But at the last second, he pulled up short and just two-hand touched the lucky signal caller, who looked like he might have been breathing a sign of relief. “We weren’t allowed to hit him,” Wheeler said afterwards. Probably a good thing for the Bellaire QB. Later in the scrimmage, there were a lot of “oohs and ahs” from the Don Drumm crowd after Wheeler drilled a Bellaire ballcarrier near the MHS sideline. That hit was pretty much typical of the Tiger 3-5 defense for the entire scrimmage. The orange and black seemingly was everywhere at once gang-tackling and creating havoc for the Bellaire offense.
