MHS’ auditorium

Alum wants to lead $1M drive for ‘very basic’ renovations

January 10, 2013

No one would mistake Devola resident Bert Goddard for Dr. Evil, but he, like the megalomaniacal villain from the “Austin Powers” movies, will soon be asking people for “one million dollars....

Those are great ideas, but remember, most of the people (especially those who don't have kids in school) believe that children should arrive on foot to school at dawn, sit on a wooden bench that they had to make themselves, scrawl with chalk on the back of a shovel, hunt, kill, and prepare their own lunch, and walk home to help with the farmin', while the teachers should be paid in pelts, goat milk, and scorn. I hope that the people who actually care about the kids can raise the money to do both, since the taxpayers sure as heck aren't going to help with the basics, let alone the fun stuff.

I agree the auditorium needs updated and the lighting would be the first on my list. I've been to many choir concerts at the MHS auditorium and the stage lighting is so terrible you can't even see your child perform. Now, while we are raising money, let me mention that our high school wrestling team and cheerleaders are practicing in an old maintenance building, with only one restroom and no showers, across from Frontier Shopping Center. This sure does make it difficult for the non-drivers of the team to get to practice. They either have to find a ride or walk. Since the subject of raising money for renovating is on the table why don't we consider adding/renovating a facility on the high school grounds where our wrestlers, cheerleaders and others can practice and have access to restrooms, showers and the new weightroom?

I think it's a fantastic idea...look at what Marietta College alumni can do here.
