Perhaps if Secrest would have concentrated more on who and what he had THIS year instead of trying to look ahead to NEXT year, they would have had a better record.

Marietta High School does not have an abundance of talent. It does not match up well against our competition. In time this will change, but not tomorrow or the day after that. Secrest knows the game, perhaps better than most. He is bright and aware of his team's strengths and weak points. Part of the weakness he faces is brought on by Marietta parents and Marietta citizens who write comments and speak openly in negative ways...this is destructive. Look, have confidence in a good coach and an even better fella..have patience. Again, regardless of sport there is not much talent at the high school and it is going to get worse before it gets better. Anger is not going to provide better athletes. There are just not enough of them at mhs. Period. But there are a lot of wonderful young men and women. Work with them and make sure they have a positive environment, not a nasty, cutting one. If the college's head basketball coach were at MHS he too would not win.

I think there are talented basketball players at MHS. The boys that are playing are talented as well as the boys that chose not to play because of the coach and his choices. To say that we don't have an abundance of talent is unfair. Where did the coach work before he came to Marietta? What was his record where he previously worked? Did he get hired for his winning record?

I'm so glad you responded happygirl and glad you broght up about how many talented players there are at MHS that give up basketball when they reach Varsity level because they don't want to play for Secrest. Does "Murphy" honestly think that Warren has an abundance of talent year after year after year? They have a coaching staff that works with them and brings out their best, instills confidance in them and the players want to do their best. This may come as a surprse, but it isn't just the Marietta people that think Secrest is a poor coach. If you talk with people from other schools we play/have played, many have no respect for him, either personally or professionally. As far as Secrest knowing so much about basketball....I would bet there are lots of us parents, friends, community people in the stands that played HS and college ball that know the game equally well and can easily see the mistakes the coach makes.
