Suspect in stabbing arrested

A man accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend in New Matamoras early Tuesday morning was arrested in Pleasants County that evening after apparently swimming across the Ohio River.
Thaddeus J. Salomon, 19, was arrested by a Pleasants County sheriff's deputy after Salomon reportedly approached someone along West Virginia 2 near the Pleasants-Tyler county line, said Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks. The suspect said he needed a ride to Marietta so he could turn himself in, Mincks said.
Salomon was "completely soaked" at the time, the sheriff said.
"It appears he may have swam the river," he said.
Salomon was in custody at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County, W.Va., Tuesday night. Local authorities are prepared to start extradition proceedings if he does not waive extradition first, Mincks said.
Once back in Washington County, Salomon will be charged with attempted murder in the stabbing of Susan I. Lawson, 23, of 51076 State Route 7, New Matamoras.
Lawson was listed in fair condition at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, a nursing supervisor said.
A release issued by Mincks says Salomon and Lawson had been living at the residence with her family but she recently asked him to move out.
Shortly after the two returned from work around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday, Lawson's father reported hearing his daughter scream for help, according to a release from Mincks. Outside, he found his daughter on the ground with a puncture wound to her back.
Lawson said Salomon had asked her for a hug and told her he had a surprise for her, then stabbed her, puncturing her left lung, the release says. He then fled on foot.
The sheriff's office searched for Salomon throughout the day, though their efforts were hampered by thunderstorms around 5 a.m. There were still deputies out looking for him, primarily in unmarked vehicles, when the Pleasants County Sheriff's Department contacted them, Mincks said.
New Matamoras resident George Amos said he and others in the area were concerned by the ongoing search.
"I own a few properties around town and I'd hate to think he's holing up in one of them," Amos said prior to Salomon's arrest.
Amos said a few of his neighbors had already spent some time searching their outbuildings and garages.
"I'm going to have to go and check everything out, just to make sure," he said.

jeremyakaoger - my sister spoke to Susan a couple nights ago and she was feeling much better. When my sister tried to call her at the hospital, the switchboard wouldn't put her through because she was a "security patient." Finally Susan called my sister from her mom's cell phone. She was in a lot of pain and uncomfortable, probably still in shock at the chain of events. But she was optomistic for a full recovery.

Everybody that is commenting on this. Stop and think, put yourself in the victim's place. Or even the suspect's place. I am a mother. I know that it is very had on the family. I have known the family for several years. If the some of the family would read what you are saying. How do you think they are going to react. There is alot of questions that I know that are going through people's head. Alot of questions that need to be answered.

Anyone willing to make a wager on his sentence? With the poor justice department in Marietta, I'm betting he MIGHT get community service. He belongs in prison for trying to kill Susan. Clearly he is derranged and has problems. Anyone who can't cope with being dumped after such a short time has problems. I'm glad that Susan is doing better. She's in my prayers. I hope that Marietta/Washington County gets some judicial representatives with a pair of cajones. I'm tired of seeing these criminals get off with a slap on the wrist.

troyinohio you have no clue how my sister was in school and if you do than you know that I Rachel her older sister was mean compared to her. She was in school a quiet kid and always kept to herself Karma what funny word you use. Susan is a kind and loving girl and did not deserve this one bit. I hope they lock thad up for good.

hockeypuck do you want to hurt everybody? What this boy did was very wrong, but your posts here and on other stories is always the same, hurt them, torture them etc. Are you a member of al-quadia? He will be punished through the system, right or wrong, that is how it works in America. No system is 100% right, but what we have here is the the best in the world. If you want to see suspects tortured move to Iran.
