The Marietta Times

From local reports

Melissa Cox and Mythica will be presenting a concert at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 232 Third St., Marietta.

Cox, lead singer and primary songwriter for the band, will also perform solo as a participant in the 11 a.m. morning worship service on June 7.

The band features Cox on lead vocals, guitar and mandolin. Michele McCann plays hurdy gurdy, woodwinds, bodhran, chimes, spoons and assists on vocals. Nicole Gallagher assists on vocals and plays flute and Irish whistle. Matt Smith plays bass, and Tim Kelly plays drums.

Mythica's songs, which include Celtic jam, bluegrass, ballads and folk rock, appeal to listeners of all ages. Instruments band members play include the hurdy gurdy, Ovation mandolin and an array of woodwinds.

"Presenting this concert is part of our commitment to bring diverse voices together in building community that works for peace, love and justice in our world," said the Rev. Kathryn Hawbaker, church minister.

Cox was voted Best Singer/Songwriter of 2008 by Spark Magazine and Best Musical Folk Artist by the DE Division of the Arts the same year. She attended the University of Delaware, where she teamed up with four other UD students in her senior year and launched her band Mythica.

The concert is open to the public. Freewill donations will be accepted.
