Vacation Bible Schools

First Presbyterian,

Christ UM

The annual vacation Bible school sponsored by First Presbyterian and Christ United Methodist churches in Marietta will be held from 9 a.m. to noon each day, Aug. 3 to 7, at 501 Wooster St.

The two churches are teaming up for a "Crocodile Dock" vacation Bible school. Area children from 3 years of age to those who have completed the fifth grade are invited to join the churches for a "bayou adventure."

The week will include music, crafts, games, a Dockside Drive-In, a Bible Bayou, and a snack shack. Children will also be on the lookout each day for "God sightings." The mission project for the week will benefit the Back Pack project in Marietta.

Laings Church of Christ

The Laings Church of Christ will be hosting "Fishing With the Master," a family vacation Bible school and gospel meeting with Mark T. Tonkery.

Tonkery, the congregation's new preacher, will be preaching Sunday, Aug. 2, at 9:45 a.m. for Bible class and 10:30 a.m. for worship and at 7 p.m. each evening, Aug. 2 to 6.

Vacation Bible school classes will be conducted for children of all ages at 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, Aug. 2 to 6, at the church, which is on Ohio 255 at Laings, Ohio.

Lowell churches

"Build Your Treasure in Heaven" is the theme of this summer's vacation Bible school being hosted by the Lowell Ecumenical Ministerial Association.

The VBS will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. each evening, July 27 to 31, at Lowell United Methodist Church. Friday will feature a "Royal Ball" and a potluck.

Newport UM

Newport United Methodist Church is having its annual vacation Bible school from Sunday through Thursday, July 26 to 30.

Registration starts at 6 p.m. Sunday with the VBS to be held from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. each evening with a program to be held on Thursday night.

This year's theme is "Son-Rock Camp" with stories about Peter and Jesus, our "Rock of Salvation," to be featured. There will be singing, stories, Bible verse memorization, prizes, snacks and games to reinforce the lessons.

Age groups are from 3 years of age through sixth-graders. Parents are asked to register their children the first night they come for contact information.

Norwood, Faith UM

Norwood United Methodist and Faith United Methodist churches are hosting vacation Bible school from July 27 to 31.

The five-night event will be held from 6:15 to 8:45 p.m. each evening at Norwood United Methodist Church's Family Activities Center, Oakwood Avenue and Colegate Drive, Marietta.

Theme for the week will be "All Aboard the Bible Express." Children from the ages of 3 through 12 will learn about God and the Ten Commandments while rotating through five stations - story time, crafts, games, music and snacks.

Parents can preregister their children by calling the church at 374-5606. Children may also register the first night of the event.

Children must be picked up and dropped off by a parent/guardian each night inside the center.

St. Luke's Lutheran

Vacation Bible school is being held 5 to 8 p.m. July 27 to 31 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Marietta.

Theme this year is "Rome: Paul and the Underground Church," a program that takes participants back to ancient Rome. The program is for everyone in the church, not just the children.

Those attending VBS will meet at 5 p.m. for a meal and then travel back in time to visit Paul and the underground church. Each day, participants will see, hear, touch and even taste what it was like to live in Rome during Bible times. They will explore authentic marketplace shops, visit the Apostle Paul (who's under house arrest), sneak to the cave where the underground church meets, take part in games, dance to lively Bible songs, and sample tasty tidbits as they discover more about the early church.

Sand Hill UM

A "Studio GO" vacation Bible school will be held Sunday through Thursday, Aug. 2 to 6, at Sandhill United Methodist Church on Sandhill Road, Reno.

Classes will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each day. Registration is at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug 2.

Youngsters will participate each day in large-group music, skits and fun, where they will be introduced to a Bible story and life focus. Wade Winalot, the host of Studio GO, will challenge contestants, Coach Armstrong and Professor Wordsmart, along with the children to see and understand how God works in the lives of those who trust him. They will be challenged to GO Lead! GO Risk! GO Tell! GO Obey and GO Serve!
