PARKERSBURG - The Parkersburg Art Center will begin offering a new series of classes for children and adults in January.

The children's classes are:
Mini-Monet Class: Six sessions for ages 18 months to 3 years with an adult. Pre-registration is required and a minimum class size of six students is required. The instructor is Jessie Seifert.
The class will run from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 20 to Feb. 24. The cost is $55 for art center members and $65 for non-members, with $5 for each additional sibling.
Kids Clay: Eight weeks for first-graders and up. Class size is limited and the instructor is Amanda Douglas.
The class will be 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 12 to Feb. 16. The cost is $90 for members and $100 for non-members.
Create your own Picture Book: Six classes for kindergarten through fifth grade. The instructor will be Lee Ann Gallucci.

Young Art Explorers: Four weeks for ages 11 and up. The class will feature painting with added texture like caulk, wood, wire, feathers, fabric and fibers and will be taught by professional fiber artist Beverly Walker.
The class will be 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 13 to Feb. 3. The cost is $60 for members and $70 for non-members.
The art center will also offer a one-day "Leave the kids with Us!" Valentines Kids Craft Day from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 13 for kindergarten through fifth-graders.
Students will make a pop-up card, play with clay, make a Valentine tie-dye (you bring the shirt) and other activities. The cost is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Pre-registration is required by calling the center at (304) 485-3859.
Adult classes will be offered in painting, clay, knitting and photography during January and February. The classes, for ages 15 and up, include:
Acrylic Painting for Beginners: Four two-hour sessions with instructor Beverly Walker. The classes will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 13 to Feb. 3.
No drawing or art experience is necessary. Students will follow the daily demonstrations to learn the basics of acrylic paints, brushes and mixing colors in simple compositions. The course will include artist demonstrations, handouts and step-by-step paint along.
The cost is $65 for members and $75 for non-members. A supply fee of $7 will allow the use of the instructor's materials for the first class and a supply list will be distributed.
Adult Clay Classes: Eight weeks with instructor Amanda Douglas. Class sizes are limited and will be available from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 12 to Feb. 16 or 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays from Jan. 14. to Feb. 18.
The cost is $90 for members or $100 non-members and there is a $15 material fee.
Adult Knitting Class: Four weeks with instructor Leann Brown. The class is limited to six students.
Students will learn to purl, stitch, decrease, color change and how to knit with three types of needles. The classes meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 13 to Feb. 3.
The cost is $40 for members and $50 for non-members. A material list will be provided.
Principles of Photography: Four weeks with instructor James Coleman.
The class will teach how to use a camera to take great photographs, digital or otherwise. It will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Jan. 12 to Feb. 2.
The cost is $60 for members and $70 non-members.
A free clay bowl making workshop will be offered at 10 a.m. Jan. 16 and 23, which is also open to children with supervision and will be taught by Amanda Douglas.
The workshop is seeking potters and non-potters to volunteer to make bowls for the Empty Bowl Project. Registration is requested by calling (304) 485-3859.
