Christ Memorial Episcopal

An Ash Wednesday service will begin at noon on Feb. 17 at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church, 409 Columbia Ave., Williamstown.

Christ UM

The season of Lent will begin with the Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at Christ United Methodist Church, 301 Wooster St., Marietta. The service will include the imposition of ashes.

The church will be distributing the Lenten offering this year among three mission projects - Harvest of Hope, which will be highlighted on Feb. 21; Homer (Alaska) United Methodist Church, which will be highlighted on Feb. 28; and Haitian Relief, which will be highlighted on March 7.

The church's Lenten study this year will be on "The Easter Experience." The six-week study, which will be led by Pastor Doug Stockton, will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday evenings beginning Feb. 22. Those planning to attend are asked to sign up at the church by Feb. 15 so enough books can be ordered. Cost for the books is $8 each.

Crown of Life Lutheran

Crown of Life Lutheran Church at Third and Wooster streets, Marietta, will begin a series of Lenten services at 7 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17. The topic will be "The Foolish Wisdom of the Cross," based on I Corinthians 1:18-25. A community Lenten meal will be served before the service at 6 p.m.

The church's Lenten study this year will have the theme that the Apostle Paul proclaimed: "We Preach Christ Crucified." Scripture texts from the New Testament epistles will show what God has done for us in Christ, the love the Lord has for us, the events of Christ's passion, and the blessings that come to us through Jesus Christ's death.

The six-week study, which will be led by Pastor Joel Vogel, will meet at 7 p.m. each Wednesday, Feb. 17 through March 24. A community Lenten meal will be served at 6 p.m. before each of the Wednesday services.

Crown of Life Lutheran is affiliated with Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Bible class is held at the church at 10 a.m. every Thursday.

Lowell UM

An ecumenical Ash Wednesday service will be held at 7 p.m. on Feb. 17 at Lowell United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Debbie Malec will give the message on "A Broken Spirit and a Contrite Heart." Pastor Don Hart, of Highland Ridge Church and St. John's Church of Lowell, will participate in the Service of Ashes, which marks the beginning of the Lenten season.

St. Mark's UM

A Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Third and Maple streets, Belpre.

Pancakes and sausage will be served. Mike King will present his ministry of gospel illusion and there will also be sculpted balloons. Cost will be a freewill donation.

First Congregational

The Lenten season will begin with the observance of Ash Wednesday on Feb. 17 at First Congregational Church, 318 Front St., Marietta.

The community is invited to gather with the congregation for fellowship and a simple soup meal at 5:30 p.m. Worship with Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes or blessing will begin at 7 p.m. The communion is open to all.

Beginning Thursday, Feb. 24, all are invited to a weekly simple soup meal and a brief program presented by one of the church boards. The weekly Thursday evening programs will end by 7 p.m. Reservations are not required

Sand Hill UM

An Ash Wednesday service will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at Sand Hill United Methodist Church in Reno.

A service will begin at 7 p.m. each Wednesday evening after that during the season of Lent with various members of the congregation presenting short monologues. The monologues are taken from the book, "The Twelve Voices of Easter" by Woodrow Kroll, and include the voices of Peter, the thief on the cross, Joseph of Arimathea and others.
