Thompson eager to get to work

93rd District Representative invites voters to speak their minds

February 5, 2011
The Marietta Times

A new General Assembly has opened, and I'm excited to be a part of it as your state representative. The 93rd Ohio House District is certainly a large one - including Guernsey, Monroe and Noble counties, as well as portions of Washington and Muskingum counties. I have traveled to communities across the district and met with thousands of residents, and I must say that I am proud to be representing such a great group of Ohioans.

This area of the state is of special significance to me. It is here that my wife, Jade, and I have raised our family and contributed to our family business. My parents started the business, Bird Watcher's Digest, during the economic downturn of the 1970s. Through the overwhelming support of our friends and neighbors, our family has been blessed with a wonderful life in southeast Ohio. It is humbling to serve those who have given so much to me.

I am anxious to get down to business in Columbus. There is so much to do to restore the health and vitality of our state. After taking the oath of office last month, I have now had the opportunity to meet many of my legislative colleagues from every corner of the state. The Ohio House is filled with a diversity of dedicated members. I am confident our collective experiences and ideas will serve our citizens well.

I am happy to report I was recently appointed to the House Economic and Small Business Development Committee, Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, and Education Committee. I'm pleased to be working in these topic areas, and I believe that my past experiences have prepared me to offer significant input in these committees.

Through these guest columns, I will share with you what your Ohio House is doing, what you can expect from Columbus and how you can get involved. I feel it is important that you be aware of what the General Assembly is doing well and where we can improve. I will also use these pages to introduce you to the people, places and businesses in our district that make the 93rd District a fabulous place to live and work.

Let us work together to restore Ohio. If you have any issues you'd like to discuss, please do not hesitate to bring these to my attention. You may call or e-mail my office, or simply stop me in the street as I continue to make my way around the district. As the neighbor you have entrusted to be your voice in Columbus, I thank you for this opportunity and look forward to hearing from you.

Rep. Andy Thompson can be reached at (614) 644-8728 or by writing to Rep. Andy Thompson, Ohio House of Representatives, 77 South High St., 11th Floor, Columbus, Ohio 43215. You may also e-mail his office at District93@ohr.state.oh.us.
