Bill and Elaine Mason of Marietta recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple was married on Feb. 4, 1961, at the United Methodist Church, Potsdam, N.Y. by the Rev. Merle Brown.
He is the son of the late William and Constance Mason of Jefferson, N.Y. She is the daughter of the late Dayton and Marion Cady of Madrid, N.Y.
The couple moved to Marietta in 1963 when he began a 33 year career starting out as a chemical engineer for Union Carbide in Sistersville, W.Va. and retiring in 1996 as a Corporate Financial Director at the company's world headquarters in Danbury, Conn. She also retired in 1996 after 18 years as the office manager, receptionist, and bookkeeper for Dr. Jeffrey R. Norkin of Georgetown, Conn. They returned to Marietta in 2002, and are members of First Baptist Church.
The couple have four children: Suzanne (Alan) McDowell of Manassas, Va., Sherry (Greg) Sheppard of Brookfield, Conn., Lisa (Wade) Miller and Brent Mason of Marietta.
They have five granddaughters: Meagan Cesaro and fiance Dan Chalmers of Wilmington, Mass.; Erin Cesaro of Brookfield, Conn.; Hannah and Abby Miller of Marietta; and Cady McDowell of Manassas, Va.
Their children, spouses, and granddaughters will host an open house cake and punch reception at First Baptist Church, Marietta on Saturday, Feb. 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. A family dinner party, including relatives from Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Ohio, Virginia, South Carolina, and Florida, will be held at the Marietta Country Club.
