Little Miss, Mister entrants wanted

The Ohio River Sternwheel festival committee is now accepting applications for the 2011 Little Miss and Mr. Sternwheel pageant to be held Sept. 9 at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta. The pageant is open to 25 girls and 15 boys ages 5 to 8 who live in the Mid-Ohio Valley.

The entry fee is $25. The application deadline is Aug. 26. Applications are available at www.ohioriversternwheelfestival.org or by calling Judy Peoples at 629-1252 or Danielle Dowler at (304) 588-3653.

Riverside Artists Gallery hosts exhibit

The Riverside Artists Gallery will be presenting, "Crossing the Continent, A Touch of Europe and The Orient." This exhibit will be featuring artists George Longfellow and Akemi Matsumoto.

The artist reception will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 12 at The Riverside Artists Gallery, 219 A Second St., Marietta and will remain in the gallery for a month.

Square dance will be held in Caldwell

The Noble County Historical Society will be sponsoring a square dance to be held at The Barn at the Ball Caldwell Homestead in Caldwell from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Aug. 19.

Music will be provided by the Buckeye Travelers Band. Admission is by donation. Those attending should bring a lawn chair. The dance is part of a welcome for the 2011 class of Leadership Ohio, hosted by Noble County Aug. 19-20.

Bipolar support group begins Sept. 5

Support groups for people with bipolar disorder and their family and friends will begin again Sept. 5 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Marietta.

The group for individuals will bipolar disorder will meet from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and the group for family and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Lowell Legion plans dinner for Aug. 20

American Legion Post 750, on Main Street in Lowell, will hold a strip steak or chicken dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 20. The cost is $10 per steak dinner, $7 per chicken dinner or $5 for a meal with no meat. The meals come with a baked potato, salad and bread. Lowell Elementary sixth-graders will be selling dessert. Meals are eat-in or carryout.
