With Santa Claus at the malls across the country asking children what they want most for Christmas and retailers amping up toy advertisements this time of year, it sometimes seems the holiday is really intended for little ones.
Still, there are some young adults who have in mind a thing or two they'd like to see under the Christmas tree.
"What I asked for was perfume, a large cluster-like picture frame and a pair of boots and a coat," said Marietta resident Holly Reed, who just turned 36.

Danielle Van Wey pulls an Xbox 360 game system with a Kinect out of a cabinet at the Marietta Kmart store Tuesday. The system is among the most popular Christmas gifts for young men.
Perfume is one item on a list of popular Christmas gifts for young women compiled by gifts.com. Also on that list is cosmetics, laptop sleeves, cross-body bags and personalized bathrobes, as well as jewelry.
Judy Sharp, soft lines assistant manager at the Marietta Kmart store, said jewelry is something a lot of people have been purchasing for Christmas for the young women in their lives.
"Any of the crystal jewelry, we sell quite a few of those," she said. "You have the look of diamonds without the price."
Gifts for young men:
Tech-ready winter gloves.
iPod/iPhone alarm clocks.
Ear bud headphones.
Multiple-gadget charging station.
Grilling tool sets.
Kinect for Xbox 360.
Gifts for young women:
Purse hooks (to keep a purse off the floor).
Fleming resident Desaree Wynn wants something for Christmas that isn't on the list of popular gifts.
"I want a new saddle for my horse," said Wynn, 28. "I have a quarter horse."
Tiffany Sergent, 25, of Marietta, has also asked for something unique - a radio for her shower.
She said it would not only be useful to her but also her children, ages 5 and 2.
"The kids like to sing," Sergent said.
As for young men, gifts.com indicates iPhone cases, iPod/iPhone alarm clocks, the iPad and other electronics and electronic-related items are popular.
"Anything electronics is popular for men - the TVs, the iPads and the e-readers," she said.
An Xbox 360 game system is also popular for young men, according to gifts.com.
Although he is slightly out of the young adult age range, that is exactly what Marietta resident Mike Barnes wants.
Barnes, 40, said he has played games on the system with his friends but he wants one of his own and he has even come up with a list of games he wants for the system.
"I want 'Saints Row: The Third,' 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3,' 'Gears of War' and 'Halo,'" he said.
The Tech Digest, www.techdigest.tv, indicates "Gears of War 3" and "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" are among the best Xbox 360 games of this year.
Marietta resident Zach Maciag, 25, said what he really wants for Christmas is a car but he'll settle for a book.
"There's a new one out by Ted Dekker called 'The Priest's Graveyard' that I want," he said. "I like books."
