NY wind soloists to perform

January 30, 2012
The Marietta Times

Marietta College's Esbenshade Series returns on Wednesday, Feb. 1, with the first of five performances this spring.

The Wind Soloists of New York begin a big February for the series as it will bring together the leading wind players from New York City to perform the major works for winds from four to 15 players.

The repertoire for the ensemble includes piano and wind works by Mozart, Poulenc and Beethoven, the wind serenades and divertimenti by Mozart and Beethoven as well as larger scale works such as Dvorak's Serenade for Winds, Mozart's Gran Partita and Strauss' Serenade for Wind Instruments.

February will also include Sweet Basil, a jazz nonet, on Feb. 8, and "For the Love of Clara," with Delores Zeigler (messo-soprano) and Rita Sloan (piano) on Feb. 29.

All performances, unless otherwise noted, take place in the Alma McDonough Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

Established through a generous gift in 1980, the series is endowed by the Frederica G. Esbenshade Memorial Fund. All performances are free and open to the public.
