Belpre Garden Club

Belpre Garden Club met Feb.13 at the home of Claribelle Lohr. Roll call was answered by naming a favorite plant for winter color or texture in the garden. New member, Leslie Pittenger, was welcomed into the club. President, Janet Robinson, announced future informational meetings for area clubs. "Restoring America, One Native Plant at a Time" will be presented April 5 in Pomeroy. Master Gardeners will present "Dig Into Gardening" April 14 in Baltimore, Ohio.

Tricia Sample has volunteered to help with the America in Bloom contest and she has made extensive drawings for suggested plantings to be constructed at the entrances to the city of Belpre. The designs are to be included in a grant application to help with the Belpre in Bloom project. Tricia described to the group the plants included in her design.

Leslie Pittenger announced that there are still openings for the fund raiser bus trip to Bob's Market in Middleport, the Wild Horse Restaurant and downtown Pomeroy.

Hostess, Claribelle Lohr, presented the program "Keep or Toss" concerning the fate of outdoor plants at the end of summer. She questioned the group regarding the fate of each of 10 plants and then read the answers as found on the P. Allen Smith Website. Guests were very knowledgeable regarding the decisions to sacrifice or to save.

Gretta Bayne was the recipient of the hostess gift. She will also be hostess to the next club meeting, Monday, March 12.
