MMH volunteers to be recognized

May 23, 2012
The Marietta Times

More than 215 individuals make up volunteers who devote their lives to helping patients, visitors and staff at Marietta Memorial Hospital. MMH volunteers dedicated 27,655 hours in 30 different volunteer job stations throughout the hospital. Each spring, they are acknowledged and thanked with an annual recognition dinner and program for devoting quality, compassionate care to patients. The dinner will take place on Thursday, May 24, at the Lafayette Hotel.

"Our volunteers make significant contributions to Marietta Memorial everyday," said Anna Vukovic, director of volunteer services. "They deserve to be recognized for their commitment to this community and to our delivery of excellent health care locally."

Because of volunteers, important functions such as greeting patients and their families, delivering charts, parking assistance and computer data entry are completed. They are liaisons between patients and staff, often making waiting easier, more pleasant and finding offices quicker. Many volunteers work behind the scenes in offices, medical records and other areas in the hospital.

Additionally, they raised and donated almost $8,000 to several different programs including the Annual Fashion Show benefitting the Strecker Cancer Center, baby blankets and hats for the hospital nursery, wheelchairs and stuffed animals for the Marietta Area Teddy Bear Fund which provides teddy bears to young patients.
