Ernest and Phyllis Grimm, of Glenwood Retirement Village, Marietta, will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary on May 30. They graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1938 and both attended West Virginia University where she majored in home economics and he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering in 1942.
They were married on May 30, 1942, by the Rev. T. L. Myers at the home of her parents, Clyde and Myrtle Johnson in Vienna, W.Va. Her sister, Shirley, his parents, Sherman and Pearl Grimm, his sister Dorothy, and his brother Sherman were also present.
Grimm was one of the first employees of the DuPont plant near Parkersburg and retired in 1978 after 33 years of service. They built their home in Vienna where they raised their three children: daughter, Dr. Penelope Hansen (Kjell) of St. John's Newfoundland, Canada; son, Andrew (Kate); Lt. Col, USAF, retired, now a professor at Marietta College; and daughter, Susan Sims (Tom), of Las Vegas, Nev.
They have seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
After retirement, the couple spent their winters in the Florida Keys and summers in Newfoundland, Canada, as well as travels to Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, and Hawaii.
