When we heard about the Marietta Family YMCA's Family Night Out events coming up we're reminded of the old fast-food ad campaign that proclaimed, "You deserve a break today..."
We're sure there are some harried parents in the region who could use a break from the hustle and bustle of daily life - work, doctor's appointments, chores at home, grass that keeps growing, trash that keeps accumulating.
For those of you who can, we encourage you to sign up for any, or all, of the Kids Night Out events. The first one is Friday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Y at 300 Seventh St. Other Nights are planned for July 27 and Aug. 3.
The events are designed for children ages 6 to 11. Cost to parents is $15 for members of the Y, $20 for non-members. Call 373-2250 for more information.
Kids can make new friends or keep in touch with others. They get to swim, play in the gym, or just generally have fun for three hours under supervision.
Meanwhile, parents get a three-hour break to relax at home, or enjoy a Friday night out minus the kids.
Sounds like a great idea. We're glad the YMCA opted to begin offering the Kids Night Out again, after missing the past two years during a re-organization of staff responsibilities.
Kids Night Out might just turn frantic Fridays into free and easy Fridays. Take a deep breath and enjoy any of these three nights.
