50th: Gary, Barbara Cowell

Gary and Barbara Cowell are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on June 9 with family and friends at their home at 5072 Rocky Springs Court in Kernersville, N.C. The celebration is hosted by their daughter and son-in-law Lori and Eric Dickinson, of High Point, N.C., and their son and daughter-in-law Michael and Angela Cowell, also of High Point.

The couple was married June 9, 1962, at the Kirby United Methodist Church in Kirby, Pa., with the Rev. Dean Hughes officiating.

They are the parents of three children: Paula (deceased), Lori, and Michael. They have five grandchildren: Jessica Rowell, Brittany Dickinson, Adam Dickinson, Anderson Cowell, and Miles Cowell. She is the daughter of the late Edith and Leslie Haines of Waynesburg, Pa.; He is the son of the late Kathryn and Donald Cowell, also of Waynesburg.

At the time of their wedding, she was a 1961 graduate of West Virginia University and was employed as a high school teacher by Uniontown City Schools in Uniontown, Pa. He was a senior at WVU. Upon his completion of a Master's Degree in Microbiology in 1965, the couple moved to Marietta. They resided there for 43 years, until moving to North Carolina in 2008. She is a retired elementary school teacher from Marietta City Schools with 33 years of service. He is retired from Broughton Foods Company of Marietta after 32 years of employment and from United Dairy of Martins Ferry, Ohio, after 10 years of service. The couple are members of Sand Hill United Methodist of Reno, Ohio.
