Pioneer Ladies Civitan presents community awards

July 13, 2012
The Marietta Times

Pioneer Ladies Civitan awarded the 2012 Special Education Teacher of the Year to Brian Kittle on May 4.

The mission of Civitan worldwide is to build good citizenship by providing a volunteer organization of clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities. Our club strives to live by this mission and since 1998 we have recognized over 14 special education teachers in our community for the outstanding work they do in their field.

Kittle has had great success with his students and working with students in kindergarten through third grade. Kittle often has his students working at or above grade level when their IEP's are completed. It is an honor to work with Kittle who works so hard and well with the students in the Fort Frye School District. Fort Frye Special Education Coordinator Bruce Crum nominated our 2012 Special Education Teacher of the Year.

Citizen of the year

Pioneer Ladies Civitan awarded the 2012 Citizen of the Year to Laurie Hadler Strahler on May 4.

Hadley Strahler came to our attention when we found out what she did for her employees while remodeling their building on Glendale Ave. The mission of Civitan worldwide is to build good citizenship by providing a volunteer organization of clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities. We believe that Laurie also believes in this mission.

Following in her mother's philanthropic footsteps, Hadley Strahler is an active member of the community. She is on the Board of Health, and previously served as a member of a board of education advisory committee. McDonald's of Marietta sponsors community events and organizations such as the Sternwheel Festival fireworks and little league baseball. A select few of Hadley Strahler's employees are volunteering at Restore Marietta, the YMCA and Boys and Girls Club while the Glendale Road restaurant is being rebuilt, and are being paid for their hours as they would have been if they were working in the restaurant.
