Two hundred workers are scheduled to be laid off at the Union Carbide Metals plant south of Marietta.
The Fort Frye Board of Education will put the just defeated levy back on the ballot in November.
Bartlett School was broken into. One hundred and fifty dollars in damage was caused to the school, another $200 in damage was done to the bus garage.
75 years ago
Campus Martius Museum has changed its hours so that tourists can have more access. The museum will be open Sunday mornings during the month of August and the first weekend in September.
Captain Billy Bryant and his company of actors won over theatre goers with the performance of "Jesse James" on the showboat in the wharf. "Lena Rivers" and "Ten Nights in a Bar Room" will be presented later in the week.
100 years ago
Miners on strike in the Paint Creek area in West Virginia started a brawl with mine guards. After gunfire from both sides, many miners and guards were wounded.
Col. Evans, of Cleveland, will take charge of a large army meeting at the Unitarian Church later in the week.
