William Byers of Marietta suffered from severe electrical shock at Ormet. He was painting the aluminum smelter plant when he came into contact with a high voltage transformer. He is in critical but stable condition.

Area teens expressed doubts that raising the drinking age from 19 to 21 would cut back on drinking and driving with the youth. Many also felt that the law was unfair to those living by themselves, and adding stiffer penalties for those caught drinking and driving would be the best way to go.

50 years ago

Police have been patrolling the area between Hart and Court streets in order to keep noise and hot-rodding to a minimum.

A welcome home ceremony for Marietta Company C of the 963rd Engineer Construction Battalion will be held at the Reserve Center on Cisler Drive later in the week.

75 years ago

Charles Sines drowned in the river at McConnelsville.

The mayor of Parkersburg is prepared to appoint a replacement for Parkersburg police chief. This preparation comes from the Chief expressing a desire to travel out west.

100 years ago

H.H. Uhl was injured near his home, between Williamstown and Parkersburg, when a small engine he was unloading with a small group fell on his right leg. No bones were broken, but he is expected to be out of work for some time.

The Marietta band will perform tomorrow (Thursday) at the city park.
