Mid-Ohio Valley Ballet Company and the Academy of Fine Arts will hold an open house from 2 to 4 p.m., on Sunday, Aug. 19. The open house has become an annual event since they moved into the renovated Nash School building at 1311 Ann St., Parkersburg and will feature dance demonstrations, registration for fall classes, tours of the facility and refreshments.
The MOVB Academy of Fine Arts offers classes for boys and girls, beginners through professionals. Classes are offered in ballet, tap and jazz. They offer a creative dance program for pre-school children ages 3 to 5 years old. Additional programs include workshops in adult fitness, yoga and ballroom dance. Information will be available on the 2012-13 season. Highlights of the season will include the annual production of "The Nutcracker" and a new original ballet by choreographer Suzy Gunter "A Trio of Fairy Tales."
MOVB is a non-profit, tax-exempt professional dance organization featuring guest artists and performances. Being West Virginia's only touring ballet company, they present over 50 concerts, lecture demonstrations and civic events annually. Their "School Days Performing Arts Series" presents educational and literature based ballets to over 10,000 school children a year.
Students from the academy and alumni of the ballet company have been offered over $700,000 in scholarships to colleges and universities around the country and abroad, based on their dance training and high academic achievements.
