The Marietta City Board of Education's proposal of reduced hours for teacher aids and two eliminated positions was rejected by the Ohio Association of School Employers. The rejection prevents an exception from occurring in contracts.

50 years ago

The Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce's annual Farm and City Day has been moved from Masonic Park to Civitan Park.

State Auditor James Rhodes announced that the Washington County Fair has been awarded $10,000 in state funds.

75 years ago

Marietta College started renovations on many buildings. When renovations are complete on Alumni Hall, the building will be primarily for biology and geology. Andrews Hall will see updated restrooms and classrooms where the biology and geology departments were housed. Parsons Hall is scheduled to be remodeled and redecorated.

The Marietta Country Club will travel to Sistersville, W.Va., to compete with the Sistersville Country Club in its first inter-club match of the season.

25 years ago

Residents of the Parkersburg-Marietta area will be able to go on board the Becky Thatcher for a discounted ticket to "Under the Gaslight." The Becky offers discounted tickets as a way to show appreciation for the community's continued support.

75 years ago

Two Belpre teens were arrested and charged with robbing a St. Clair station in Belpre

A large number of Marietta Legionnaires will attend the state Legion convention. The convention opens Aug. 15 in Columbus and continues through Aug. 17.

100 years ago

Moving pictures of Marietta and its people will be taken this week and will soon be featured in a film.

Congressman James M. Cox will visit Marietta Aug. 14. He will speak about proposed amendments to the Constitution.
