The Sardis alumni held their 28th annual alumni reunion on Saturday, June 2, at the Sardis Fire Hall. A total of 33 alumni were in attendance. The evening began with a social hour at 4 p.m. Ronald Redman gave the invocation and Raymond Snell said grace prior to the catered meal.
After dinner Mary Valentine brought the program to attention with roll call and recognition of each class and graduation year. She then read the list of deceased alumni since last year's reunion while Glenna Cisler lit the candles in honor of each one. The class of 1952 was this year's honored class and each member received a gift to remember their 60 year reunion.
The veterans were asked to stand and be recognized for their service to our country. Songs from each branch of the military were sung.
Each year the Alumni Association recognizes the current scholars that have graduated from Sardis Elementary and River High School. Haylee Winkler was the scholarship recipient as the Sardis eighth grade valedictorian. Denise Heath was the scholarship recipient as the Sardis eighth grade salutatorian. Several door prizes donated by merchants were given out. Recipients included Leland Eisenbarth, Mary Boston, Mary Moody, Keith Jones, Amanda Merckle, Janet Lohr, Marilyn Ice, Bob Price, Gary Smittle, Harry Merckle, Tom Hubbard, Sonny Jackson and Marlyn Eisenbarth.
