The Parkersburg Homecoming celebration is set to kick off at 6 p.m. and will run through the 16th.
Wu Lui, division chief of foreign affairs of Hubei Provincial Peoples Government, and his interpreter, Guangfu Zhao, arrived in Marietta to learn about the state of Ohio and its various localities. Lui said he wanted to forge a "sister city" relationship with Marietta and an undetermined city in his province.

An emergency oxygen kit was stolen from the front seat of the Harold Hadley ambulance Aug. 12. Police warned that the kit would be extremely dangerous in the hands of juveniles.
The offices of the Washington County Fair Board moved to the Washington County Fairgrounds, where they will remain until the Fair is over.
75 years ago
Presidential approval was given to completely revamp the Washington County Fairgrounds. Two new horse barns will be erected as replacements for the ones destroyed in the January flood, new restrooms will be added, damaged buildings will be repaired and new fences will be put up.
State aid for public health in Marietta is set to draw to a close Aug. 31 because of a shortage in funding.

The Woodmen's Band will give a concert in the city park. The performance will precede Congressman Cox's address.
W.E. Sykes of Marietta has been selected to represent the 15th district in the regular Republican state executive committee.
