55th: Leo, Mary Ellen Daniels

Leo and Mary Ellen Daniels, of 113 Sacra Via, Marietta, will celebrate 55 years of marriage on Aug. 31.

A trip to Amish country is planned for early fall and a family reunion in the spring at Whalehead Beach, Corolla, N.C.

They were married on Aug. 31, 1957, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, South Portland, Maine, by the Rev. John J. Barrett. In 1982, they renewed their wedding vows at St. Gregory Church, Gray, Maine, and again in 2007 at St. Mary Church, Marietta.

Daniels is the son of the late Aime and Claudia Daniels. Mrs. Daniels' parents were the late Raymond and Esther Vassar.

Daniels is a professor emeritus of Marietta College, having taught French for 28 years and chairman of the foreign language department for many of those years. Mrs. Daniels was an officer with the former DimeBank and associated with the performing group Reminiscence II, formerly the Reminiscents.

They are parents of six children: Lisa Daniels, Dunedin, Fla., Lori Daniels-Miller (Randy), Youngstown, Leslie Daniels-Miller (David), Gibsonville, N.C., John Daniels, Marietta, LTC. (USA-Ret.) James Daniels (Mary), Fletcher, Okla., Jeffrey Daniels, Alexandria, Ky.

Their grandchildren are: Osagie Enaiho, Louisville, Ky., Isi and Osare Enaiho, Cincinnati, Dani and John T. Miller, Youngstown, Jamie Leigh Bourgeois, Winston-Salem, N.C., Meredith Rorer, Gibsonville, N.C., Rosa Quiroz (Eddie Nelson), Seal Beach, Calif., Chesney Overton, Fletcher, Okla., Tanner and Connor Daniels, Alexandria, Ky. Great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Nelson, Seal Beach, Calif.

Daniels is an active golfer, bowler, woodworker and photographer. He is also a philatelist and belongs to the Blennerhassett Stamp Society, Parkersburg.

Mrs. Daniels is an avid cook, gardener, reader and bridge player.

They have traveled extensively, including two bicycle trips in Europe, one in France for three months as part of a sabbatical for Daniels from Marietta College, and one touring northern France and southern England.

Music has always been part of their lives, having met while professionally singing in Portland, Maine. They have been active members of the St. Mary Church choir for over 40 years.
