- Former Marion Elementary School students enjoyed their first day at Washington Elementary. Marion Elementary closed at the end of the last school year.
- Marietta is set to host the WBNS-TV Sept. 10. It will be for WBNS-TV's 100th "Heart of Ohio" broadcast, which started April 2 in Xenia and has aired in locations all over Ohio.

- A fire started in a closet under the main stairway of the Colonial Block at about 10 p.m. Aug. 26. The fire was discovered by Ralph Hill, an employee of the Times, and was put out before major damage could occur.
