VIENNA, W.Va. - Following an historical day for the Parkersburg High School golf program at the Mountain State Athletic Conference Meet, the Big Reds had to charge up the amps once again for a tri match with Parkersburg South and Marietta at Parkersburg Country Club on Wednesday.

Behind a 39 from the trio of Ryan Anderson, Lucas Prine and Austin Davis, PHS evened the score in head-to-head meetings with South this season at 3 apiece after turning in a team score of 159. Also contributing to the Big Reds' cause was Lauryn Davidson with a 42. It was only 24 hours earlier that the sophomore became the first female golfer from the school to earn all-tournament honors at the MSAC.

The MSAC experience began with a road trip beginning at 5:45 in the morning and returning to the Mid-Ohio Valley nearly 12 hours later.

"To get up, make up work and go to the school then come here ... I thought we'll see how it goes," PHS coach Don Snider said. "Thank goodness it was on our course, so I'm sure that helped."

Jared Hammons' 2-over par 37 led Marietta to a runner-up finish at 161, while South followed with a 164 despite a pair of 40s from Trent McCutcheon and Adeena Shears. For the second straight meet, Shears turned in a low score for the Patriots after shooting even par 36 at South Hills Golf Course the previous day in a dual meet with Warren.

The rest of the South contingent was made up of Garrett Dailey and Sam Boso, both carding a 42.

Rounding out the scoring for the Tigers were Nathan Matheny (41), Jeff Hensler (41) and Joe Broughton (42). The nine-hole match marked Marietta's first following a full day in classes.

Hammons managed to take medalist honors while coping with a lunch which didn't agree with him as well as a sore knee.

"I had a little bit of a stomach issue there mid-round," Hammons said. "I'm not sure what I ate for lunch, but it didn't settle with me well. I was more concerned with just getting to the end than my score today."

The same three schools hook up again Wednesday at Marietta Country Club.

"This is a fun match -I like these Wednesday matches," Snider said. "Those kids from Marietta are pretty good. The top of their lineup is really solid. And South just has more depth than us."
