"Peace March," by Mariettan Anne Chamberlain Brown, was published in the spring issue of Queens Quarterly, a Canadian literary journal. The short story takes place during the Vietnam War-era.
A Newport woman, 77, fell victim to a $700 scam. She was approached by three men who said they would repair her trailer roof. The workers put tar on the roof, painted over it, and then fled with the money. Her husband contacted the sheriff's office and the Better Business Bureau.

The Merchants Association will meet at the court house assembly room Sept. 5. The Association will be discussing the county fair and the closure of stores.
