- A free media relations workshop has been planned for all nonprofit groups in the Marietta area. The workshop will be held on October 14 at Marietta College.
- A "PM Magazine" special was taped at Rossi Pasta. The eight-hour filming will be condensed into about four minutes and will air Thursday, Sept. 24 on WSAZ-TV, channel 3, at 7 p.m.

- James Russler drowned in the Muskingum River near the Fairgrounds when his boat overturned. He was part of a four-man hunting party.
- The board of education reported that Marietta High School's enrollment is nearly 400, the largest it has ever had.
