Alva Ellsworth Hartshorn, 88, of Elizabeth, W.Va., passed away Sunday (Sept.16, 2012) following a long illness.
He was born March 25, 1924, in Newell's Run, Washington County, Ohio, a son to the late Raleigh and Anna Hartshorn. After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp, during World War II he retired from Sears, and was most recently a night guard at Laborer's Training Center.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, James T. Hartshorn, and Osten Hartshorn, and sisters, Pearl Delong, and Deborah Shawver.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila Hartshorn; son, David Hartshorn; daughters, Marilyn Bauer, Janice Lookabaugh, Patricia Roberts; stepchildren, Kimberly Birney, Kasey McCulty, and Samantha Delaney; sisters, Ellen Duvall, along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Services will be at noon Thursday (Sept. 20, 2012) at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial will follow in the Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday.
