Globe Metallurgical Inc. officials are considering rehiring out-of-work union workers. They will be rehired under the old contract in exchange for the union dropping its unfair labor practice charges against the company.

The state has approved more than $1.9 million for repairs on Devols Dam.

Sept. 30

The Marietta High School Choir's annual dinner theater will be held in the cafeteria. The event starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2.50 for children under 12.

Fort Frye school district teachers have decided that Oct. 19 will be the date of their strike if an agreement cannot be reached with the school board. Their contract with the board of education expired June 30.

100 years ago

Louise Jackson, visiting Marietta from New York City, stepped from the dock onto a boat, and she fell into the river and nearly drowned.

A vote will take place on whether or not the armory for the Ohio National Guard should be built on a part of the ice harbor lot in Marietta.
