- Phil Cooper and his father have been sandblasting replicas of six riverboat smokestacks into the limestone fountain at the Ohio River levee. The name of each boat appears under the smokestack as well as the dates it was active on the river.
- The U.S. Army Field Band will perform Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Marietta Senior High School. The Soldiers' Chorus will also appear with the Army Field Band.

- Hamden Wilkinson's body was found by two boys in New Matamoras. Wilkinson drowned after the boat he was in was hit by a tow boat.
- The famous American basso, Myron W. Whitney, and his company will perform at a concert sponsored by the A Tempo Club. The concert will be Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. Tickets range from 50 cents to $1.
