Elizabeth M. Schilling, 94, of Marietta, formerly of Beverly, died Monday (Oct. 1, 2012) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born Dec. 24, 1917, in Lowell, Ohio, daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth Lang Huck. She was a homemaker and had worked as a cook at the Plaza Restaurant in Beverly for several years. She also took care of elderly people in their homes. She was a longtime member of St. Bernard Church and St. John the Baptist Church. She was a lifetime member and officer of the St. John's CWC. She had always been active in St. John's School. She was also a member of the St. John's Senior Citizens and the Friendly Circle Quilting Club. She was a volunteer at the O'Neill Senior Citizens Center in Marietta, working as a clerk for the blood pressure program and on the newsletter, the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Marietta/Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau at its information center on Pike and Acme Street. She had been a member of RSVP since 1980 and had 3,000 lifetime hours. Giving to others and her faith was very important to Elizabeth and she enjoyed her family and many friends.
She was married Nov. 8, 1938 to William John Schilling, who died March 28, 1979. She is survived by two sons, Charles Schilling and wife, Lillian, of Beverly and Bernard Schilling and wife, Marilyn, of Watertown; seven daughters, Barbara Martin and husband, Kyle, of Beverly, Betty Harmon and husband, Ted, of Beverly, Julia Britton and husband, Kenneth, of Fleming, Sue Hart and husband, Ted, of Beverly, Carolyn Miller of Waterford, Deborah Kuhn and husband, Steve, of Columbus and Denise Reed and husband, Michael, of Rock Springs, Wyoming; son-in-law, Robert Mayo and wife, Patty, of Williamstown; 35 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Nelson Schilling; daughter, Ruth Mayo; grandson, Greg Schilling; granddaughter, Lee Ann Schilling; son-in-law, David Miller; a grandson by marriage, Stuart Mayer; 10 brothers, Jake Albert, Frank, Leo, Paul, Anthony, Edward, Freddy, Henry and Andrew Schilling; three sisters, Lucy Brooker; Loretta Haines and Stella Huck.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. John the Baptist Church at Churchtown with Monsignor Robert Kawa and Father Virgil Reischman officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. Thursday at McCurdy Funeral Home in Beverly. A rosary service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday.
