CHILLICOTHE - The undefeated Marietta Middle School eighth-grade football team improved its mark to 4-0 with a 22-8 triumph over host Chillicothe on Oct. 2.
The Tigers started the game on defense and immediately showed why they have no blemish on their record. They caused an early fumble and gave the offense the ball with good field position.
The MMS O-line of Darnell Kimbrough, Brian Nelson, Joey Novotony, Boyd Bingler, Michael Crawford, Wesley Satterfield, and Bailey Wright provided nice running lanes for an array of backs all game long. They allowed the Tigers to drive down the field and get a quick score. There were a total of nine players who carried the ball for the Tigers. Leading the way were Isaac Danford, Travis Moore, Garret Lehman and Matt Ford. Bailey Wright, Brendan Alkire, Trent Dawson, Danny Hiser, and Aaron Elliott also contributed with some quality rushes. Dawson had a big pass to Danford to start the second half that led to a quick touchdown The Tiger defensive unit was very solid all night as it only gave up the one touchdown to a very strong Chillicothe offensive unit. Nick Murphy had a sack and Mythius Haughton had an interception late in the game that helped seal the deal for the Tigers.
MMS coaches' Wright and Davis say that they "are extremely pleased with this group of boys."
"They work hard in practice and they have bought into this program. They are very confident in their abilities and they also understand the importance of being good young people on and off the field. They have committed to be a 'Band of Brothers.' They play hard each play for each other, and it does and has made a difference."
