Middle School Cross Country: MMS cross country teams conclude season

The Marietta Middle School Boys and Girls cross country teams concluded its season Tuesday by competing in the combined East/Southeast District Championship at The Elizabeth S. Broughton Nature Preserve.

Eleven boys' teams and twelve girls' teams competed for the top three spots in the district race.

The boys squad finished second, as district runner-up. They were led by Brandon Neville in ninth place, Zach Deskins in 18th, Hayden Carman in 29th, Turner Hill in 32nd and Max Garrison in 37th. After tallying the five scorers for each team, Marietta was tied for second. In cross country, the team with the higher placing 6th runner advances, as that runner's finish breaks the tie. John Diehl's 53rd place finish for the Tigers broke the tie and secured second place for the team.

Brandon Neville earned All-District Second Team honors and Zach Deskins earned All-District Third Team honors.

Other Marietta placers were Noah Miller in 55th, Patrick Elliott in 60th, Hunter Danford in 76th, Nathan Matthews in 101st, Hunter McKinney in 106th, Tucker Hampton in 107th and Samuel Bartlett in 113th.

The boys squad finishes its season with a 106W-36L record.

The girls squad finished 5th, led by Elena Lawson in 15th place, Maria Carver in 31st, Kallee Dowler in 33rd, Cooper Halliday in 38th and Nora Torbett in 40th.

Elena earned All-District second team honors.

Other Marietta placers were Viola Sullivan in 56th, Taylor McVicar in 60th, Hannah Crone in 67th, Heather Bricker in 68th, Aryn Robinson in 70th, Breanna Dailey in 86th, Bailey Graham in 87th, Renee Austin in 103rd, Jonysa Bradford in 105th and Audrey Smith in 107th.

The girls squad finishes its season with a 99W-39L record.
