Look beyond campaign rhetoric before you vote

October 18, 2012
The Marietta Times

Last fall, Marietta's voters went to the polls and elected candidates for the city's Executive, Judicial and Legislative branches of our local government. When the votes were all counted you chose men and women, Democrats and Republicans, and one Independent to run our city.

In the ten months since they took office your selections have proven to be wise ones. Marietta is well governed.

Now you must choose again this time for another slate of candidates running for county, state and national offices. With all the arguments and counter arguments, we have all heard for so many months, your decisions will not be easy.

Let me suggest that you look beyond the campaign rhetoric to decide who should get your votes. Again as you did last year choose candidates that have character. Vote for people who: want to make government work; are team players; whose sole agenda is the common good; who know they don't know it all and are willing to listen to others; and want what is best for us all.

These are the type of people that every organization wants and needs to be successful: our government, at every level, should be no exception. That's the bottom line.
