Robert J. (Bob) McCarthy, 93, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Oct. 16, 2012.
Bob was born April 5, 1919, as the "middle child" of five boys: Walter, Donald, Robert, Charles and Bernard to Louise and James McCarthy. He was raised on a farm in Churchtown. Education was grade school-Churchtown one room school house, high school- Marietta St. Mary and St. Charles College in Columbus, Ohio. Bob entered the Navy in 1943 as a commissioned officer and served in the Pacific Theater until after VJ Day, then state side until Aug., 1946. He accepted a job with the Veterans Administration in Columbus where he met and married his wife Margie in 1948. In 1957, Bob founded a business company, MOM, Modern Office Methods which served two thirds of Ohio. MOM is based in Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, and Zanesville. MOM is one of the largest document handling companies in the Midwest. Bob's son, Kevin, is the President and CEO.
Bob is survived by his wife, Margie, and their five children: Molly (Bruce) Vollmer, Christina McCarthy, Kathy (Rick) Maxwell, Kevin (Mary Ellen) McCarthy and Sheila (Steve) Bandy; eight grandchildren, Brian and Colleen Maxwell, Katie, Alyssa and Kevin, Jr. McCarthy, Patrick, Sean and Ryan Bandy and three great-grandchildren, Jake and Max Vollmer and Lium Fildes. Bob has been a resident of Naples since 1984.
Mass of Celebration of Life will be held at St. Gertrude Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be made to the Athenaeum of Ohio or to the Dominican Foundation, 141 East 65th street, New York, N.Y., 10065 and designated for Dominican Novices, East African Dominican missions, South Pacific Dominican Missions (Bishop Cardone).
