The Washington County Public Library will host a children's Halloween party for 3- to 11-year-olds. The party will include a movie, magician and Halloween tales.
A petition was submitted to The Marietta City Council regarding the treatment of cats. The 29 people who signed the petition think that cats, like dogs, should be put on a leash.

The West Virginia Highway Department chose the low bidder, Alan Stone Co. of Chesterhill, for the Williamstown Bridge demolition.
Projects of elementary and junior high students regarding the Capitol Christmas Tree will be eligible for awards. The Christmas tree is being provided by Wayne National Forest.
100 years ago
As a team of oxen left the West Side of the city and approached the East, the nearby horses proved skittish. The sight was watched by many.
The largest political meeting of the campaign season is set for 7 p.m. at the Auditorium. Congressman Cox and Congressman White, of Marietta, will address the people of the county. A parade will form at the Bellevue Hotel and will march to the Auditorium.
