- The Ku Klux Klan's rally Saturday, Oct. 24, is expected to be peaceful, but area police officers are "prepared for the worst." The Klan's rally is to be met with protests from the "Celebration of Unity" participants. The Klan is having rallies in Marietta and Belpre.
- The Second Generation Ohio Child Conservation League will have a benefit dance, "Puttin' on the Ritz," Saturday, Oct. 24, from 8 p.m. to midnight. Proceeds will go to Marietta Memorial Hospital's obstetrics unit.

- The 42nd annual session of the Eastern Ohio Teacher's Association will meet in Coshocton on Oct. 25. Many area teachers will be attending the event.
- Dr. I.J. Johnson broke his right arm as he was cranking his automobile.
