A representative from the office of U.S. Representative Clarence Miller, R-Ohio, will be at the Washington County Courthouse from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, October 27. He will be answering questions and taking comments from constituents.

The local branch of the Ohio Department of Transportation is seeking bids on two projects. The projects, for a new traffic building and heating and cooling for the existing office, are estimated to cost $1.2 million.

George Fenton, president of Fenton Art Glass, withdrew a request to rezone area streets near the plant as industrial. The withdrawal came after neighbors expressed concern over the switch from residential. Fenton's is cooperating with area residents for future plans.

Washington County commissioners took the first step toward the construction of a new bridge across the Muskingum River. Commissioner Glen Miller said it could take up to 10 years for a new bridge to be built and would cost $5 million to $10 million.

100 years ago

Harry Snider, fullback for the Marietta Independents fractured his shoulder blade during the game against Moundsville. He was injured during the first play, but didn't leave the field until the second quarter.

Polack's Original Juvenile Minstrels performed at the Hippodrome. The act was met with much delight from the audience.
