25 years ago

- "Dial M for Murder," an Alfred Hitchcock suspense thriller will be performed over the weekend at the Mid-Ohio Valley Players theater.

- Santa Claus will not arrive in Marietta during the Christmas parade at the end of the year. The Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce decided to cancel the parade and focus festivities toward Marietta's bicentennial.

100 years ago

- The Bull Moose train, which has been touring the state with the state Progressive candidates aboard arrived in Marietta. A large crowd greeted the candidates, as did the Woodmen's band at the depot.

- Congressman George White, of Marietta, was appointed by Gov. Harmon as a delegate to the National Rivers and Harbors Congress.
