Orville Harrison Winland, 92, of Pleasant City, passed away Wednesday (Oct. 31, 2012) at his home.
He was born May 15, 1920, at Wingett Run and was the son of the late Harrison W. and Alberta B. (McCurdy) Winland.
Mr. Winland was a graduate of Ludow High School and Muskingum College and did graduate work at Ohio University and Kent State University.
He was a retired teacher, principal, and superintendent in Knox, Monroe, Preble, Muskingum and Guernsey Counties. He owned and operated a lawn mower repair business for many years.
He was a member of the OEA and NEA Associations, Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Irene (Bode) Winland whom he married Sept. 14, 1940, and passed away Feb. 2, 2002; brothers, Warren and William; sisters, Goldie Davison, Sylvia Day, and Elizabeth Winland.
She is survived by five sons, Reginald (Carolyn) of Blue Rock, Dr. Roger (Debra) of Athens, Dr. Ronald (Julie) of Worthington, Rusty (Kendra) of Byesville and Robert (Betty) of Hilliard; 22 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his very special friend, Judy Warehime.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday (Nov. 5) at Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville where services will follow at 1 p.m. with Evang. Woody Biggs officiating.
Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens.
