25 years ago

- Magnet Bank branches in Parkersburg fell victim to vicious rumors that the bank would close. Customer panic ensued and prompted the withdrawal of $3 million in three hours from the branches.

- Despite the Fort Frye teachers union's rejection of a contract from the Board, classes resumed as some teachers went back to school.

100 years ago

- Fire Chief George Holst reported that he had been robbed of nearly $40. The police are on the lookout for a man who disappeared from the area after the robbery.

- The Ohio Valley Poultry Association made plans to host a show Jan. 20-27. Special prizes will be awarded during the show.
