Manhunt ends with arrest

November 6, 2012
From staff reports , The Marietta Times

A morning burglary attempt in Waterford ended in an afternoon arrest in Wood County for Lucas A. Heiss, 32, of Belpre.

According to Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks, a Waterford resident returned home Monday morning to catch Heiss in the process of burglarizing his home. Heiss ran, but the resident saw his getaway vehicle and the authorities were called.

Heiss left the county but the sheriff's office had been tracking the vehicle throughout the day. When Heiss made his way into Parkersburg in the afternoon, a Wood County sheriff's deputy approached the vehicle and the man fled toward the river, literally running out of his shoes in the process, said Mincks.

In cooperation with Wood County and other local departments, the Washington County Sheriff's Office participated in an afternoon manhunt that resulted in Heiss' arrest late in the afternoon, said Mincks.

Heiss was the "warrant of the week" last week on the Washington County Sheriff's Office website. It is likely that he is connected to other burglaries in the area, possibly including the recent rash of Marietta breaking and enterings, said Mincks.
