The city council has decided to demolish the city-owned red brick house on Third Street. The structure was bought with the intention of tearing it down and building a parking lot, but the council opted to keep it. Attempts to sell, lease and renovate the structure were met with failure, which left the council with its original option: demolition.

Chain link fences have cut off the Williamstown Bridge from pedestrians. As soon as telephone lines are removed, the demolition of the 84-year-old bridge will begin.

A man, armed with a revolver, robbed the Newport branch of People's Savings Bank around 10 a.m. He got away with an undetermined amount of cash. The Ohio Highway Patrol, West Virginia State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have been alerted. The Washington County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the case.

The southeastern Ohio chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation has decided to give six turkeys to the King's Valley Ranch for six families on welfare assistance.
